Privacy policy

The short version. The app runs entirely on your computer and sends us nothing about your finances — not your balances, not your accounts, not your plan. There is no account to create and no telemetry. This website counts page views with the analytics described below, and you never type financial information into it.
Who we are
Preflight Retirement LLC publishes the Retirement Preflight desktop application and operates preflightretirement.com. You can reach us at support@preflightretirement.com.
The application
Retirement Preflight is a desktop program, not a hosted service. The projection engine runs locally on your own hardware, and the plans you build are ordinary files saved wherever you choose on your own disk.
We never receive:
- Account balances, property values, debts or mortgage details
- Income, Social Security benefit amounts or tax figures
- Names, birth years, household composition or state of residence
- Any plan file, in whole or in part
There is no usage analytics, no crash reporting that transmits your data, and no background reporting of any kind. The application is fully functional with no network connection.
When the app does use the network
The app makes network requests in only these situations, and none of them carry your financial data:
- Checking for updates
- The app asks GitHub Releases, where the installers are published, whether a newer version exists. This request necessarily reveals your IP address and the version you are running to GitHub, as any download does, and is handled under GitHub's own privacy practices.
- Activating a license
- If you buy a license, the app validates the key you enter with our payment provider. That exchange involves the license key only.
- Downloading a tax-data pack
- If you buy one, the app downloads the published tax tables. It sends no information about your plan in order to do so.
This website
The typefaces are served from this domain rather than a font CDN, so simply reading a page here does not announce your visit to a third party.
We do measure traffic, and we would rather name it than have you find it in
the network tab. The site runs Cloudflare Web Analytics,
which loads one small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com
and reports aggregate page views. It does not fingerprint your device, and
it does not follow you to other sites — no advertising network is involved
and nothing is sold or shared. What it tells us is which pages people read
and roughly where in the world they are, which is what we use to decide what
to document next.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which also processes standard server request data (including IP addresses) in order to deliver pages and protect against abuse. That processing is Cloudflare's, performed on our behalf as our hosting provider, and we do not build profiles from it.
None of this touches the application, and the distinction is the important one. Web analytics measures this website: which pages get read. You never enter financial information on this website — there is no calculator here, no sign-up, no form of any kind. Your balances, income and plans exist only inside the desktop app on your own computer, which contains no analytics whatsoever and reports nothing, as described above. Knowing that someone read the support page tells us nothing about anyone's money, and that is the only kind of thing this website is in a position to know.
Buying
Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our merchant of record and is the seller of record for your transaction. They collect and process the billing details, payment information and tax location data needed to complete the sale, under their own privacy policy.
We never see or store your full payment card details. What reaches us is limited to what we need to support the sale: your email address, your license key, and what you bought.
Email you send us
If you write to support, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to help you and to keep a record of the exchange. We do not add you to a marketing list. If you ask to be told when the product ships, we keep your address for that one message and delete it afterwards.
Please do not send us your plan file unless we specifically ask. It contains your financial details, and we would rather not hold them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete the personal data an organization holds about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold so little — essentially just support correspondence and purchase records — such a request is usually simple for us to answer. Write to support@preflightretirement.com and we will respond.
For data held by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record, requests about payment and billing information should go to them, though we will help you reach the right place.
Children
This is a retirement planning tool for adults. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes affecting how we handle personal data will be noted prominently rather than made quietly.
